Southampton Solent University


Located in the town of Southampton, in the United Kingdom, Solent University formerly known as the Southampton Solent University is a public university which has its origin traced back to 1855. Founded as the private School of Art, the school, subsequently became the Southampton College of Art. 

Later on, in the year 1984, Southampton Institute of Higher Education was formed as a result of the merger between the College of Nautical Studies at Warsash and Southampton College of Technology. And in the year 2004, the Southampton Institute was awarded the University status and was renamed as Southampton Solent University. However, in the year 2018, the University had its last name change as the Solent University. 

Currently having a student base of 12,000 students, the Solent University offers professional and practical courses in a wide range of subject areas including Art and design, Engineering, Fashion, Sport and fitness, Business and Finance, Law and criminology and English and journalism. Also, Solent University holds affiliations with GuildHE, Million+ and Universities UK.

Situated in the town Timsbury, the Solent University’s Timsbury Lake Campus is also known as the Ship Handling Centre. The Timsbury Lake Campus is home to the model ship handling centre which offers specialist training for masters, pilots and ship’s officers. 

Solent University’s Warsash campus is also known as Warsash Maritime Academy is located on the eastern bank of the Hamble River overlooking Southampton Water. The Academy offers a range of yacht and boat design degree programmes along with specialist support services for the maritime industry and a suite of international maritime studies courses.
