About

Located in the city of Perth, Western Australia, Edith Cowan University (ECU) is an Australian public university which has its origins traced back to 1902. Founded as the first tertiary education institution in Western Australia- Claremont Teachers College, it later on merged with many other teacher training colleges including Graylands Teachers College (GTC), Mount Lawley Teachers College (MLTC), he Western Australian Secondary Teachers College (WASTC), Churchlands Teachers College and Nedlands College of Advanced Education (NCAE) forming the Western Australian College of Advanced Education (WACAE) in 1982. 


Later on, in the month of January 1991, the Western Australian College of Advanced Education received its university status and was renamed as the  Edith Cowan University. Named after the Edith Cowan- first woman to be elected to an Australian Parliament, the ECU offers more than 300 courses and is home to over 30,000 students.


Some of the notable alumni of Edith Cowan University include Ahmed Adeeb (Ex Vice President of the Maldives), Terry Mills (Ex Chief Minister of the Northern Territory), Marcus Graham, Julie Warn (director of WAAPA) and Musa Aman (the chief minister of the Malaysian state of Sabah).

Location

Edith Cowan University has a total of three campuses, two of which are at Joondalup and Mount Lawley and one at Bunbury, in South West Region of Western Australia. 


Joondalup Campus located at 270 Joondalup Dr is the ECU’s main campus. The Joondalup campus is a part of the Joondalup Learning Precinct which includes the Western Australian Police Academy to the North-east and  the West Coast College of TAFE to the North. Facilities on the Joondalup campus include a multimillion-dollar sport and fitness centre, a new and modern Health and Wellness Building, an award-winning library, an outdoor cinema screening Perth International Arts Festival and a vibrant student hub. 


Located at  2 Bradford St, close to Perth's central business district, the  Edith Cowan University’s Mount Lawley Campus is a part of the Mount Lawley education precinct with the Mount Lawley Senior High School and houses Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts(WAAPA)- Australia’s well-known as most successful arts training institution. 


Merely a two hours drive south of Perth, the ECU’s South West Campus located in the town of Bunbury is the largest university campus outside the metropolitan area. Home to the Bunbury Health Campus and South West Institute of Technology, the campus also houses the St John of God Hospital as well as South West Area Health Services.
