The history of the West Cheshire College traces back to 1812, during the formation of Literary, Scientific and Philosophical Societies in Chester to encourage learning and the expansion of knowledge. Education in these areas expanded with lectures taking place at The Grosvenor Museum, workshops and forced lessons were taught at many community centres. Finally, the Handbridge site was bought in 1948 for the formation of Chester College of Further Education. 

The College became West Cheshire College in 1996, as further education, vocational College in the North West of England, with over 20,000 students enrolled. There are a range of facilities and services provided by West Cheshire College to its students and vast community which include fine dining restaurant, theatre, dance studio, conference facilities, gym, and business lounge.
