About

Located in Cardiff, Wales, Cardiff University is a public research university which has its history traced back to 1883. Established as the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire, it later merged with the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology (UWIST) in the year 1988. 

Later on, in the year 1893, it became a founding college of the University of Wales and was granted its degree-awarding powers in the year 1997. 

In the year 1999, the college went ahead and adopted the public name of Cardiff University, which became its legal name, as an autonomous university awarding its degrees in the year 2005. Not only is Cardiff University the third oldest university institution in the world but also it is the only Wesh member of the Russell Group of research-intensive British universities.

The Cardiff University is home to 3 colleges which includes Biomedical and Life Sciences; Physical Sciences and Engineering; and Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Catering a total of over 31,000 students, Cardiff University is one of the ten largest universities in the UK. The University offers a range of both undergraduate as well as postgraduate programs, out of which the particularly famous ones include MBA, Psychology and Law.

Location

Cardiff University consists of two large and well-placed campuses- Cathays Park and Heath Park.

Located in Park Place, the Cardiff University's main campus "Cathays Park" houses the University's grade II listed main building and grade II listed Bute building. The main building comprises of science library, and administrative facilities and the Bute building houses the Cardiff School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies and the Welsh School of Architecture. Apart from this, the campus also includes Glamorgan Building which houses the Cardiff Schools of Geography, Social Science and Planning and the Redwood Building which is home to the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. The School of Computer Science & Informatics, School of Physics and Astronomy and the School of Engineering are situated just off Newport Road in the Queen's building.  

Based at the University Hospital of Wales, Heath Park, Cardiff, the Heath Park Campus is home to the School of Dentistry, the Cardiff University School of Medicine, the School of Optometry and Vision Sciences and the School of Healthcare Sciences.
