Robert Gordon University


Located in the cosmopolitan port city of Aberdeen in Scotland, Robert Gordon University also known as RGU, is a public university that has its origins traced back to the mid-18th century. Founded as the Robert Gordon's Hospital- an educational institution to provide primary education to the poor. 

Built by a prosperous Aberdeen merchant and trader- Robert Gordon, the Institution became Robert Gordon's Technical College in the year 1910, as a result of mergers between various other adult education and technical education. However, in the year 1965, following further developments, the college was renamed to Robert Gordon's Institute of Technology. Later on, in the year 1992, the Institution was granted its university status under the Further and Higher Education Act 1992 and was finally named as The Robert Gordon University. 

Awarded as the best modern University in the UK by the Times Good University Guide and graded as the top University in Scotland for employment by the DLHE, the RGU offers BSc, BA and PhD courses to its students in the fields of social science, professional, technical, business, health, and industry.

The Robert Gordon University operates a single campus in Aberdeen- Garthdee Campus.

Wonderfully placed on the spacious parkland on the Garthdee Road just adjacent to the River Dee, the RGU's main campus- Garthdee Campus is home to all the academic and administrative departments of the University. Well-known for its modern architecture, the Garthdee Campus is where all the teaching and research take place. Some of the main buildings at the Garthdee campus include the Aberdeen Business School building, Sir Ian Wood Building, Faculty of Health and Social Care building, The Gray's School of Art building, The RGU SPORTS building and The International College building (ICRGU). 

The RGU Garthdee Campus is well-served by well-connected city transportation links. There are a number of bus services that operate between the campus and Aberdeen city centre. The service 1 & 2 runs from the Bridge of Don to campus and back via Union Street every 5 minutes. The campus can also be easily accessed from the station by either bus or taxi from the Aberdeen Railway Station. While the taxis take around only 15 minutes to reach the campus, the Aberdeen Bus 1 and 2 directly travels to the Garthdee Campus.
