Swinburne University of Technology


Established in the year 1908, the Swinburne University of Technology, commonly called Swinburne, is an Australian public university based in Melbourne, Victoria. Formerly known as the Eastern Suburbs Technical College, the institution was formed to assist those without access to further education in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. However, in the year 1913, the institution revised its name to Swinburne Technical College, and on 1st July 1992, the college gained its university status by the Swinburne University of Technology Act and was renamed as the Swinburne University of Technology. 

Ranked among one of the top art and design schools in Australia, Swinburne University of Technology currently caters a total of 24,000 students and offers degrees, diplomas and master programs in a wide range of subjects. Some of the notable alumni of the Swinburne University of Technology include Amanda Howard- crime author, Karl von Möller- an Australian filmmaker, Houman Younessi- an American educator, practitioner and consultant in information technology and biotechnology and Sam Hammington- an Australian comedian.
