Location: Brisbane, Queensland

Founded in 1936, the University of Queensland first conducted classes on the campus of the Mayne Medical School which now serves as the university’s primary campus. Offersing degrees in three main study areas, including Public Health, Biomedical Sciences, and Medicine, the university’s medical programme lasts four years. The university’s central campus is located in Herston, which is in close proximity to Brisbane CBD. If you’re planning on pursuing an undergraduate degree, you’ll have to look elsewhere as the University of Queensland does not provide undergraduate degrees. The university also gives students a hand in paying for their degrees by offering them scholarships. 

Entry Requirements: 

There are three different pathways you can take to be eligible for a degree at the University of Queensland. They are as follows: 

  • You should have a bachelors degree matching the prerequisite courses, and have professional health qualifications, such as dental science and nursing.
  • You must have completed a bachelor degree that covers the courses necessary for entry into the Doctor of Medicine, such as nutrition and sports sciences.
  • You must have completed a bachelor’s degree covering the minimal courses required, such as a bachelor of arts degree.

4. Monash University

Location: Clayton, Melbourne

Ranking: 33rd

With campuses in Bendigo and Melbourne, the Monash University offers prospective students a direct-entry Bachelor of Medical Science or Doctor of Medicine degree which typically lasts five years. If you’re looking for a course with direct-entry, you won’t find another as this is the only course available in Victoria that allows direct entry into the medical field for you even if you have left the school. The university is currently under the leadership of Professor Peter Ebeling. One of the top medical schools in Australia, the Monash University has 10 schools and departments, including schools for Nursing and Midwifery, Central Clinical School, Rural Health, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Biomedical Sciences, and more. If you plan on applying here, you need to keep th efollowing things in mind when applying:

  • Your selection process will be based on your UCAT results, an interview process, and your ATAR.
  • Since there are limited seats available for the course, the ATAR changes annually. 

5. The University of New South Wales

Location: Kensington, Sydney

The University of New South Wales, which was established in 1960, offers medical degrees through their partnership with several health facilities in Sydney and other regions of Australia. Undergraduate students can study for their medical program at the university’s main campus which is located in Sydney East’s Kensington. The university’s medical faculty currently consists of two associate deans, a deputy dean, and 13 teaching staff heads. If you’re looking for an undergraduate degree, you can opt for the university’s Bachelor of Medical Studies/ Doctor of MEdicine desgree which takes six years to complee and requires at least a Band 4 in English Standard for entry. You could also opt for a double degree in arts which requires 8 years. 

Entry Requirements: 

Students who wish to apply to this medical school need to fulfill the following criteria: 

  • Completing the University’s Clinical Aptitude Test (CAT) ANZ
  • Completion of the application form which requires an ATAR of at least 96.00 to be considered for an interview
  • Selected candidates can expect to be interviewed upon release of the ATARs
