Located in the capital city of London, the Royal Veterinary College informally known as RVC is a public veterinary school as well as a constituent college of the federal University of London that has its origin traced back to 1791. Founded by the group led by Granville Penn, the college received its Royal Charter as the Royal Veterinary College in the year 1875. It, later on, joined the University of London in the year 1949.The Royal Veterinary College is the oldest, largest and the only veterinary college in the UK to have its Royal Charter. The RVC is also one of only 8 in the country where students can study veterinary courses. 


Currently catering a total of 3,000 students, the college offers a wide range of postgraduate courses in Livestock Health and Production, Control of Diseases in Animals, Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health, Wild Animal Biology, Veterinary Epidemiology, Veterinary Education and Wild Animal Health. Some of the notable alumni of the RVC include Sir Gordon Shattock, Mary Brancker and Walter Plowright.

The Royal Veterinary College has a total of two campuses, one near Potters Bar in Hertfordshire and the other one in Camden in central London. Located at 4 Royal College St, London, the RVC Camden campus is home to many students of Biosciences, Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Gateway. In addition to this, the Camden campus also houses the main bulk of the RVC Student Union (RVCSU) which also includes Haxby, the main college bar. Also, the nearest underground station- St Pancras International Station/ King’s Cross is at a 10-minute walking distance from the campus, and Mornington Crescent Underground Station is also at a 10-minute walking distance from the RVC Camden campus.


Inaugurated in the year 1959 by Queen Elizabeth II, the RVC Hawkshead campus comprises of a Learning Resources Centre, lecture theatres, student housing, laboratories and a Clinical Skills Centre. In addition to this, the campus also houses the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals, the Large Animal Practice, LIVE Centre, the Centre for Endemic, Exotic and Emerging Diseases (CEEED) and the Mill Reef Pathology Building. Located near Brookmans Park, in the rural Hertfordshire, the Hawkshead Campus is just a 10-minute drive away from the Potters Bar railway station.
