Based in leafy Strawberry Hill in South West London, St Mary's University, Twickenham, is a modern and friendly university which was established in 1850 and is acknowledged for being the oldest Roman Catholic University in the United Kingdom. Formerly known as St Mary's University College, it was granted full university title by the Privy Council on 23 January 2014. The University caters more than 5,000 students offering 60 undergraduate and postgraduate taught and research degree programmes through four schools, namely the School of Art and Humanities, School of Management and Social Studies, School of Education, Theology and Leadership, and School of Sports, Health and Applied Science. The University has also been awarded a Silver in the 2017 Teaching Excellence Framework. Voted as the seventh-best uni for the course and lecturers by student reviewers, their Primary and Secondary Initial Teacher Training programmes were also rated as outstanding by Ofsted, and several other degrees offer professional accreditation. The notable alumni of the University include BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2017- Sir Mo Farah, Oscar-nominated actor- Pete Postlethwaite, fitness coach and TV presenter- Joe Wicks, Tom Grennan , professional boxer and Olympic bronze medalist Joshua Buatsi and many more.

The University's current estate is in four parts. The primary or main campus and the new Naylor library is on the Waldegrave Road in Twickenham near the grounds of Strawberry Hill house. A hall of residence is located at 16 Strawberry Hill Road; The main sports fields are located on the Teddington Lock campus in Broom Road in Teddington. Students can travel directly to Strawberry Hill station from Waterloo station using the Kingston loopline operated by South Western Railway. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes and the students can even use an Oyster card for this journey. St Mary's is a 5-minute walk from Strawberry Hill station,and the University is only a mere 10 minutes' walk from Twickenham and Teddington. Easy access to public transport makes it convenient for students to head to shopping and leisure facilities in Kingston, Twickenham or Richmond. The closest airport to St. Mary's is London Heathrow. The easiest way to reach the University from Heathrow airport is by taxi, and the other way is to take a bus for a relatively cheaper journey and can get off at the 'St Mary's University' stop on Waldegrave Road.
