Coventry University


Located in the city of Coventry, England, Coventry University is a public research university which has its origins traced back to 1843. Founded under the name of Coventry School of Design, it was later on renamed as the Municipal Art School during the early 20th century under the Education Act 190. Again in the 1950s, the school had its one last name change into the College of Art. 

To tackle the need for a high level of technical training, the Lanchester College of Technology was formed and named after the car engineer Frederick Lanchester. However, in the year 1970, the Lanchester College of Technology was merged along with the College of Art and Rugby College of Engineering Technology to form Lanchester Polytechnic. Later on, in the year 1992, the college obtained its university status and was finally named as Coventry University.

The University caters a total of 30,000 students worldwide, the University offers about 300 undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various fields including International Experience, Automotive Courses, Engineering, Business and Management, Health and Life Sciences and Art and Design. Besides this, the Coventry University also holds its affiliation in University Alliance, Association of Commonwealth Universities and Universities UK. 


Coventry University consists of four campuses: Coventry campus, CU Scarborough, CU London and CU Coventry.

The 33-acres Coventry campus is located in Coventry City Centre alongside the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum and Coventry Cathedral. The campus houses a mix of converted structures, newly built buildings, and predecessor institutions. The most prominent element of the Coventry campus is the Hub. Inaugurated on August 2011, the Hub is home to the Coventry University Students’ Union, a nightclub, student support services, a food hall and food outlets. 

Located in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, the Coventry University’s CU Scarborough campus offers courses in Science & Engineering and Law. Apart from this, the CU Scarborough campus also incorporates University Technical College (UTC) and new sports and leisure village for 14-18-year-olds. 

Established in the year 2017, the CU London campus offers a range of both part-time and full-time courses in Dagenham, East London. Situated in the one-time Dagenham Civic Centre, the CU London focuses on “high quality, low-cost, career-focused” education. 

Established in the year 2012, CU Coventry is a side shoot of Coventry University. The campus provides a range of both full-time and part-time professional courses including legal studies, accounting and marketing. Although the programmes are approved and awarded by the University, CU Coventry is an independent variable from the University with its staff and facilities. 

Student life
