About

Situated in Newcastle upon Tyne, in the North East of England, Newcastle College is a further education and higher education college which has its history traced back to 1894. Established as Rutherford Memorial College, later on, became Rutherford Grammar School in the year 1945. Later on, in the year 1962, the college was divided into two separate division- The Charles Trevelyan Technical College and The College of Further Education. Subsequently, Newcastle College was formed as a result of a merger between the two colleges.

Newcastle College is part of Newcastle College Group (NCG) and is also one of the most critical education, employment and training organisation in the UK and the largest college in the North East of England. Divided into five schools- 

Currently catering over 40,000 students, the colleges offers Further Education, Apprenticeships, adult and Higher Education courses The School of Engineering, The School of Health, Childcare, Business and Science, Newcastle School of Education, School of Construction, Leisure and Sport and The School of Creative and Digital Industries.

Location

Situated between Scotswood Road to the South and Westmorland Road to the North, the Newcastle college’ Rye Hill Campus” is merely a 10-min drive from the Newcastle city centre and a 10-minute walk from the Newcastle central station. In addition to this, there are also 4 other satellite sites owned by the colleges School of Engineering- which includes Newcastle College Rail Academy which is in Gateshead, Newcastle Aviation Academy which is situated next to Newcastle International Airport, the Automotive Academy which is located off Scotswood Road and the Energy Academy which is in Wallsend.

In August 2011, a brand new Sixth Form college was proposed to be built at Rye Hill campus which was scheduled to be opened by 2013. The college did open but in the year 2014 as Newcastle Sixth Form College but is not anymore a part of Newcastle College. The college currently has its separate section within the Newcastle College Group. 

Student life

The college also has its very own award-winning- The Chefs’ Academy. Apart from this, the college also house dedicated IT suites, lecture halls and a well-stocked library. What’s more? The students can become a member of the Student Union and take part in the regularly conducted on-campus events and gigs.
