Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get an en-suite room?

All rooms are allocated on a first come first served basis. If there are en-suites available, you may be able to get one.

What's in my room?

Whatever room you choose, you’ll always have a bed, desk, chair, wardrobe, chest of drawers, shelves and noticeboard. Standard rooms have three quarter beds, while en-suite rooms come with a private bathroom. You’ll need to bring your own bedding, though. The room is yours for the time you’ve booked it for – there’s no need to move things out for holidays and so on.

What is included in the kitchen?

Kitchens come adequately equipped with a cooker, microwave, fridge, freezer and kettle. You will need to provide your own crockery and cooking utensils. Starter packs are available to pre-order before you arrive.

How fast is the internet?

The internet will be around 50 Mbps

Do I have need to buy contents insurance?

No. They’ll sort this for you. All their students are automatically covered by Endsleigh Insurance. However, this cover may not be sufficient for your needs, for example if you have expensive computers and smart phones so they strongly recommend you review your policy and upgrade your cover if you feel you need it.

How do I access areas within the accommodation?

On arrival you will be given a key to your room, giving you access to your flat and your allocated bedroom. You’ll also be given a fob, which will give you access to the block you live in, laundries, access to the junior common room and facilities in Sillitoe Court. If wish to obtain a parking permit, this fob can be updated at reception to give access to the car park barrier – although they can’t do this for visitors unfortunately. The keys and fob are solely your responsibility and if lost you will be required to pay for a replacement. They advise that you take good care of these and do not pass to others due to the associated risks to not only your own belongings but of those belonging to your flat mates.

Who cleans my flat?

Their on-site cleaning team will clean block communal areas like the common room and laundrette, but you and your flatmates will be responsible for cleaning your flat. Flats will be checked monthly to ensure the property is being well maintained.

Can I personalise my room?

You can personalise your room using accessories and bedding, which you need to provide yourself. They ask that you don't put posters on your walls as you’ll have to pay for any damage caused.

Where can I do my laundry?

They have on-site laundry facilities with plenty of washers and dryers. They use a cashless top-up card system, and they’ll talk you through it all when you get here.

Can I bring my car?

Is there anywhere I can store my bike?

Yes, they have plenty of secure bike storage units on site. They recommend that you bring a bike lock.

Can I have guests to stay?

Guests are permitted for a maximum of two consecutive nights in any week but must sleep in your room with you. Nobody is allowed to sleep in the lounge or kitchen area. If you are going to have a guest, you must email their name and the dates they’re staying to the property and you can obtain a free visitor parking permit from reception.

Where do I collect my post from?

All letters and deliveries will be delivered directly to your flat and they have an Amazon parcel delivery container on site. They do not accept parcels or post in reception, so please ensure that you are available to collect deliveries.

This is someone with a UK home address, over the age of 18 and either in full time employment or a homeowner. The split of instalments is 40%/40%/20%. Pay in full: pay the full sum of rent in one payment. You must pay in full if you cannot obtain a UK based guarantor.

What events do you arrange on the site?

The junior common room committee, supported by the Student Union and Residential Experience Team, organise events on and off-site throughout the year. The Resident Tutor team organise events such as exam de-stress workshops, free bicycle maintenance, and Guide Dog Meet and Greets. The on-site team also organise welcome BBQs, charity fundraising events and special events.

Can I bring a pet?

Do I need to have a TV Licence?

You will need to purchase a TV licence if you wish to watch or stream live TV in your flat. They recommend that you get a TV for your communal area and share the cost between you and your flatmates.

My offer has been rejected by the university; can I cancel my booking?

Yes, that’s fine. But it’s important to let them know as soon as possible. Please screenshot your rejection letter from UCAS along with your name and reference number. Send the screenshots via mail and they’ll process deposit refunds if applicable.

Can I cancel my booking?

If you didn’t get the grades you needed for your place at university, or you got better grades than expected, you may be eligible to be released from your contract.
