Frequently Asked Questions

What happens when I check in?

When you check in, you will either be met at the property by a member of the residence staff (this can vary from residence to residence). You will be advised about the procedure when your booking is confirmed.

How far is the hall of residence from my school/college?

At the time of booking, please let us know the name, address, and postcode of the school/college where you will be studying. We will then be able to advise you as to which residences would be most convenient for your place of study. We will also direct you to the appropriate websites which will help you to calculate your journey time.

How many people will live with me in the hall of residence?

That will depend upon the hall of residence. Rooms in many halls of residence are arranged in ‘cluster flats’ (apartments) where between 3 and 8 rooms share a communal kitchen/dining area and sometimes bathrooms (when bedrooms do not have private en-suite bathrooms).

If my hall of residence is configured in ‘flats’ (apartments) who else will be staying in the same flat?

You will normally be sharing your flat with other students attending language schools college or university courses. Your ‘flatmates’ may be from a variety of different countries.

Can I have my own room?

The majority of their buildings offer single rooms while a few others offer twin and double rooms. Please refer to each individual residence page for details of room types and book accordingly.

If I book a twin share room, who will I be sharing with?

You will be sharing with another person of the same gender as you. You may also book a twin room if you are arriving with a friend, partner or family member.

Can I book to stay in a single-sex apartment (i.e. all girls or all boys)?

This is not usually possible, although it can occasionally be arranged if you are traveling as a part of a group and if it is requested well in advance.

Do I need to bring bed linen?

No, all bed linen is provided. In some halls of residence, bed linen is laundered and changed weekly while in others you will be expected to launder your own. Please make sure that, if you bring your own linen, it is clearly marked and kept well away from the bed on linen change day (if applicable). They cannot be held responsible for any linen that is taken by mistake unless it has been removed from the bed and clearly labeled. Please refer to each individual residence page to find out if your hall of residence provides a bed linen laundering service.

Do I need to bring towels?

Some of their halls of residence provide bath towels while others do not.

If I book a hall of residence that has shared bathrooms, how many people will share the bathroom?

This depends upon the size of the ‘cluster flat’ in which your room is situated. Normally a maximum of 5 students will share a bathroom.

What does self-catering mean?

Self-catering is when there are no meals provided with the accommodation, but students have access to fully equipped kitchens where they can prepare their own meals. The majority of halls of residence are self-catering.

Do I have kitchen facilities?

Yes, all of their self-catering residences have fully equipped kitchens. You are expected to provide your own washing up liquid and clothes.

What happens if I don’t know how to work something in my residence?

Ask others in the residence if you are unsure how to work something, alternatively, ask a member of the residence staff to assist you or provide you with written instructions.

Do I have a phone in my hall of residence?

Some halls of residence have pay phones in public areas or have apartments with phones that are programmed to accept incoming calls only, where you may only be able to dial out using a phone card or an 0800 number. However, they recommend that you bring your own mobile phone or purchase a ‘pay-as-you-go’ phone while you are here.

Do I have computer/internet facilities in my building? What will it cost?

All residence buildings have Internet facilities, but you will need to bring your own computer. Most residences offer free internet access but where there is a charge, the cost may vary according to the residence concerned.

What happens if the Internet is not working?

Contact the management representative or on-site residence staff to report it. If your computer rather than the Internet facilities are the cause of the problem, They will help in any way that they can but cannot be held responsible for any problems related to your computer.

Will I have laundry facilities?

All their residential accommodation has laundry facilities on-site. Some residences have coin-operated washing machines and dryers while others have machines in the kitchen of each flat. There are also irons for you to borrow.

Will I have a television?

There is a television in the student lounge of all halls of residence.

What happens if I lose my key?

Unfortunately, there is a charge for lost keys. Please immediately report the loss to the management representative or on-site residence staff. Please ensure that you do not have anything with you identifying your address with the keys, as this means they will have to change the locks for the whole building.

Where should I have my mail sent?

You should have your mail sent to the address of your hall of residence.

Can my friends stay in my apartment when they come to visit?

Unfortunately, overnight guests are strictly prohibited in most halls of residence, especially those offering single rooms only. Occasionally, overnight stays (of no more than 3 nights) can be arranged in certain residences which offer twin or double rooms. Prior permission must be obtained in advance from management's office and an additional charge will apply. If you have friends and family who are coming to visit then please let us know, and they can assist you with arranging accommodation for them.

When will my apartment be cleaned?

This varies according to the facilities available at each individual hall of residence. You are, however, expected to keep your room tidy and clean the kitchen after using including washing dishes. Failure to do so could result in you being charged for professional cleaning. Bathrooms should be left clean and dry.

What happens if I break or damage furnishings or china/glassware?

They understand that occasional breakages occur in the kitchen and they do not normally charge for these unless they are excessive. Breakages and damage, such as to furniture and carpets/curtains, may be charged for or the cost deducted from your deposit.

How much do I have to pay to secure the room?

Full prepayment for stays of up to and including 13 weeks is required, as described on the pro-forma invoice, which will be sent to you at the time of booking.

I am staying for longer than 13 weeks. Is it possible for me to pay in installments and do you have a payment plan option?

Yes

Why is a deposit required and how can I get it back at the end of my stay? How long does it take? How will it be refunded?

A deposit of £250.00 is required at most halls of residence (with the exception of summer-only halls of residence). The purpose of the deposit is to cover the cost of any damage or breakages caused by students during their stay, as well as to act as a guarantee against non-payment of accommodation fees. Deposits must be paid in advance (prior to arrival) by credit card or bank transfer. They regret that they are not able to accept cash on arrival. They will refund your deposit (less any deductions for damage/breakage or accommodation fees) within 28 days after you leave the hall of residence. Deposits cannot be refunded in cash.

Where will my accommodation be located?

All our accommodation is located near underground stations. A full description, including information on the location can be found on our website (please refer to each individual accommodation page for details) and information will be provided to you upon confirmation of your booking.
